Talent spotting is on the cards for the next Supreme Court Judge

Posted in Latest News on 10 Aug 2015

Diversity has been on the minds of many in recent months, with the legal industry trying to increase the number of BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) and female legal professionals. Many initiatives are being rolled out by universities, the Law Society and firms to ensure open and fair recruitment.

As the Supreme Court looks for their next Supreme Court Justice appointment for late 2016, they also look to increase diversity by talent spotting for potential candidates. They are currently developing methods for identifying individuals who may be considered worthy for appointment, and will then offer support to those who are interested. This would be in the form of mentoring and career development, providing opportunities to those who may not have previously felt that had the necessary support they would need to apply for the role.

This is another positive step for improving diversity within the legal industry, showing that the industry as a whole is committed to offering more opportunities to people of all backgrounds.
