Something along the lines of? I enjoy my work and the businesses I am involved with. I also have a great home life!

Please tell us a little bit about Andrew Smithson?
I was born in 1951 and was educated at Leeds Grammar School and the University College London.  I articled in Lincoln's Inn where I stayed as a Partner until I moved to the North West about 20 years ago.  I tried the 'big firm' experience and didn't like it so I set up on my own!  We do primarily Commercial work.  I am building my firm by broadening the work and clients we take on. Outside of work I harbour a desire to improve my musical skills namely the trumpet and piano!

Which 3 words best describe Smithsons?
Effective, approachable and sympathetic.

Who's been the biggest professional influence on your career and why?
My Senior Partner from my London days.  He was an ex fighter pilot who gave me the best advice ever - beware of the clouds with the hard centres!  He was a good, compassionate Lawyer and I have always tried to follow his example.

What's the best advice you could give a young, ambitious Solicitor at the start of their legal career?
'Listen rather than talk' and 'under-promise and over deliver'!

What do you enjoy doing when you're not working?
Cooking, playing in brass bands, skiing, running and reading.
