I Solicitor. Lawyers safe from automation

Posted in News on 18 Sep 2015

The role of a Solicitor is safe from automation for the next 20 years according to a study by researchers at Oxford University and Deloitte.

Roles requiring employees to exercise judgement, creativity and negotiation skills are at less risk according to the study.

The research put Solicitors the risk of Solicitors being replaced by robots at 3% or “quite unlikely” - just 1% more than Medical Practitioners.

HR Practitioners are safe enough at 24% whereas Legal Secretaries on the other hand are considered high risk at 97.6%. Paralegals and Legal Assistants are also in danger at 94%.

And it’s no wonder law forms a big part of the future strategy for accountancy firms – researchers put the risk of automation in the sector at 95% or “quite likely”.

Top of the list and most in danger are Telesales people – bottom are publicans and managers of licensed premises. Following on from our recent article about Uber the future of taxi drivers is “too close to call” – the study puts the likelihood of you flagging down a driverless cab on the way back from your Law Society dinner in 20 years’ time at somewhere around the 50/50 mark.
