Cut Out and Keep Wheel of Fortune

With the publication of our 2016 Salary and Benchmarker just round the corner we thought we would whet your appetite by giving you brief glimpse of the future.

Over 3,000 legal professionals completed our survey this year which we believe makes it the biggest of its kind and the most credible bit of insight produced for the sector.

The average age of respondents was 34 with a range of 17 to 68 years old, 52% of the total were aged 24 to 32.

79% of all respondents were qualified and this year we also saw another rise in the number of In-house legal professionals completing the survey.

32% of legal professionals will be moving jobs in the next 6 months - applied to the market as a whole that could be over 42,000 Solicitors looking at pastures new; whereas 24% of legal professionals moved jobs last year did so for reasons of progression. The 2nd biggest motivator was job security at 12% which was once again slightly down on last year and 10% cited money which was up from 7% 12 months ago.

Whilst just under 10% of respondents said they moved primarily for a salary increase, over 70% of all respondents secured a pay rise when they moved to their current position – a happy outcome indeed.

There was no year on year change in the percentage of legal professionals who receive a bonus.

Legal professionals who receive a bonus are a just over a third less likely to move jobs in the next 6 months of 2016. 40% of bonuses paid are the equivalent of 5% or less of salary and only 12% of recipients are happy with that.

Our 2016 Salary and Benefits Benchmarker will be published on the 8th February.
