2019 – Ready or Not?

Posted in Latest News on 25 Sep 2018

Earlier this month we made our first 2019 placement!

With a big influx in activity and a rise in job instructions for new year requirements, in the next few months we are expecting our 2019 new starter count to dramatically increase.

You shouldn’t freeze your job search on the account of the winter drawing closer and the days getting shorter. So far in 2018, January starts have accounted for 12% of our placement totals with 26% of our placements commencing within the first quarter of this year, a huge total given we have only entered the final trimester of 2018.

Notice period lengths can massively vary from individual to individual with legal sector professionals and can be anything from a couple of weeks up to 6 months. However, we’ve calculated that on average for qualified Solicitors, Associates and Partners the average notice period is 3 months. This means if you’re looking for a fresh start in 2019 it’s beneficial to have the conversation surrounding making a move and the options available to you with one of our experienced consultants now.

Of course, those determined to secure a new position may benefit in striking while the iron is hot, for those actively looking, we prepared a handy how to guide for advice on optimising your search. Some people though will need time to mull over such large decisions over the Christmas period. For those unsure of their next steps we identified the top 5 reasons given by candidates as to why they are searching for alternative employment and if any of these resonate we’d encourage that you get in touch or do some research to help you come to a decision.

It’s not just candidates who should be forward thinking. If you are a hiring manager committed to a strategic hiring plan or are looking to support a new programme of growth in 2019, you should already have this in mind. The market moves fast and to be ahead of the competition in acquiring the best talent being the quickest off the mark is certainly beneficial.

2019 is no longer the distant future… for candidates interested in making a move before or after the year’s end contact a member of our team today or browse to our legal job search for an update on all the latest legal opportunities.
