Leeds Trainee Solicitors CV Workshop

Posted in News on 3 Feb 2015

Yesterday evening, nine of Douglas Scott Legal Recruitment’s team attended the Leeds Law Society CV Workshop at the BPP in Leeds. As sole Sponsor of the event, we kicked off the Workshop with a presentation from our Associate Director, Jon-Paul Hanrahan. He gave advice and information to the sixty strong audience of mainly second year Trainees on ‘what good looks like’ when it comes to putting together a CV.

Following on from Jon-Paul, we listened to contributions from a number of other legal professionals; recently qualified Solicitors to experienced Partners. We heard from both Private Practice and In House Solicitors (Rebecca Procter, Commercial Solicitor at Ward Hadaway and Director of Leeds Law Society; and Delia Williams, Assistant Counsel at ghd) who discussed the various nuances of both sides of the fence shall we say. We then learnt from a qualified Litigator (Nick McQueen, Commercial Litigation Solicitor at Walker Morris) about the importance of tailoring your CV to each and every one of your applications. Finally, a Partner from a major law firm (Suzanne Wharton, Professional Negligence Partner at DAC Beachcroft) prepared us for the rigorous recruitment process at such a firm.

Once the Workshops were over the Trainees had the opportunity to have a 1-2-1 session with one of the speakers to get very specific advice on their CV and how best to approach the job market once qualified. Running in conjunction with the 1-2-1’s was the opportunity to Network over a glass of wine.

The evening also saw the famous Douglas Scott Prize Draw and the lucky winners were; Alexandra Mills from Blacks who won the bottle of Laurent-Perrier Rose champagne, Carly Plant from Stewarts Law who won the £50 of Individual Restaurants vouchers and Naila Ali from Petherbridge Bassra who won the £50 of Harvey Nichols vouchers.

Thank you to everyone who attended and a special thanks to all involved at the Leeds Law Society and the BPP – without them, this event would not have been possible.
