Trainee Solicitors Numbers Explode

Posted in News on 9 Feb 2015

Trainee Solicitor numbers bucked the trend of previous years and grew by 65% in 2014 according to research carried out by Douglas Scott Legal Recruitment.

5,541 training contracts were registered last year and 3,415 periods of recognised training were entered into. Periods of recognised training accounted for 97% of the growth with only one person having both a training contract and period of recognised training granted in 2014.

Kathryn Riley (pictured), Managing Director of Douglas Scott commented “Hats off to the SRA for opening up the doors to qualification with the acknowledgement of periods of recognised training.  Periods of recognised training have accounted for pretty much all of the growth in numbers and have the potential to enable greater social mobility within the profession and also tackle the issue of paying minimum wage for trainees.”
