Networking with Jack Downton

The In-house team at Douglas Scott Legal Recruitment love getting ‘out and about’ and 2015 is no exception; we aim to visit more clients, candidates and friends in the industry, taking every opportunity to meet more of the people we work with. ‘Team In-house’ were lucky enough to attend, and sponsor, an event with the C&I Group in December which focussed on just that – Networking.

Renowned Business Coach and Managing Director of The Influence Business, Jack Downton, along with actor Paul Clayton, boldly offered to take on a room full of In-house Solicitors and address the problems we sometimes face when Networking. It was an informative, hilarious and memorable event.

After heading down to London from Douglas Scott Legal Recruitment HQ, we headed to the offices of Shepherd and Wedderburn, who kindly hosted the evening, and they allowed us to embellish their entrance with bowls of our signature orange Tic-Tacs!

Kicking off the evening, and setting the tone for the event, Paul Clayton treated us to a number of comical, and true to life, Networking scenarios. With his ‘hold no prisoners’ approach, he quickly demanded our attention and encouraged a number of ‘volunteers’ to get involved. Jacqueline Cohen (Royal Society of Chemistry), Tabatha Bruce (Canon) and Jennifer Radford (British Heart Foundation) braved the stage and acted out a number of Networking ‘faux pas’ whilst Jack Downtown provided valuable and insightful comments on how to put these techniques into practice.

To top the evening off, and in true Douglas Scott Legal Recruitment style, we revealed the winners of the Business Card Raffle; Zoe Hammond (Macquarie Bank) headed home with the ‘Individual Restaurant’ vouchers and Dana Feinsohn (Unilever) triumphed with the bottle of Laurent-Perrier champagne.

Whether you work In-house, in Private Practice, or even in the Recruitment industry; we would recommend booking Jack Downton (or getting your hands on a ticket to one of his events) – it really is worth it. Along with it being a relaxed and amusing evening and a great opportunity to meet fantastic people, it presented memorable techniques to ensure you really are getting the most out of Networking events. We will certainly use all we learnt in the year ahead.
