Christmas Career Countdown - Day 10

Posted in Latest News on 20 Dec 2017

In-house roles are becoming more and more popular and, as the landscape of the legal industry continues to evolve, there are more In-house roles on offer in a wider variety of businesses. For many, the In-house sector can offer the perfect fit both in terms of job satisfaction and career progression. Recognising that alternative routes into the legal profession that differ from the standard Private Practice pathway are available, and being open to these, could help you land that dream role.

A huge benefit of working In-house is that your involvement in the business doesn’t end when a certain transaction or deal is complete; you are totally immersed within the wider culture and success of the business and have a direct impact on their development. You often have the opportunity to work with other departments across the organisation, become more ‘commercial’, and for In-house Counsel becoming a Board member is now a realistic prospect.

There are more variables to working In-house than in Practice – Some businesses have small In-house teams, covering a broader workload, whereas larger businesses may have upwards of 100s of Lawyers and your work may as a result be more focussed. Whilst there may not always be a clear-cut route to progression (i.e. Partnership track), there are normally plenty of opportunities to develop and grow as a Lawyer.
