Handling a variety of issues with a high success rate, the team services a wide range of clients and provides support to both law firms and In-house departments of all sizes.


We partner with both law firms and In-house legal teams to support specialist project recruitment and contract work. Our expert consultants have numerous years experience handling temporary and contract work for both Private Practice and In-house legal sector based clients. In addition to short term assignments they help manage seasonal demands as well as sourcing maternity/ paternity, notice period and garden leave cover.

Our team aim to respond to new assignment submissions in an efficient and time saving manner with an aim to get CVs across within a 1-hour time-frame. With a large and active database of fully pre-screened and reference-checked candidates from all levels, practice areas and sectors, the team are able to provide our clients cover when required the most.

With a completely digitalised timesheet process, Clients can review and approve their temp worker's submissions with ease allowing them to focus their attention on the more important tasks at hand.


Our dedicated consultants offer wide-ranging coverage across all practice areas and levels; from legal support up to Partner level. Split with a respective focus on the Private Practice and In-house sectors, Steven  and Lisa recruit on a national level and have connections with some of the best firms and In-house legal departments the country has to offer. We frequently deal with professional Contractors and Locums and are apt at securing recurring placements and repeat work for our candidates.

Our bespoke Locum portal was created to move the timesheet process online, revolutionising the way that candidates submit their weekly timesheets and making the laborious task of printing and faxing paper timesheets redundant. All our fully-fledged Locum candidates have access to use the portal as well as training and telephone walk-throughs on request.

Lisa joined Douglas Scott in 2013 where she ran our Locum desk for 2 years before going on to work as a Business Manager at one of the largest recruitment agencies in the UK, here she focused on Legal & Compliance on a contract and interim basis. Lisa re-joined Douglas Scott in 2018 as a Managing Consultant to set up a Legal & Compliance desk within our In-house department, again with a contract and interim focus and predominantly within (but not limited to) the London market. Originally from Cornwall she now lives in the Manchester area with her husband and young son Harrison.

Steven Baylis

Steven joined Douglas Scott in early 2016 and began his recruitment career in 2013. He previously worked for one of the largest global HR service providers as an account manager and 360 recruitment consultant. He is a member of the Locum team, primarily focusing on the North West and Yorkshire areas but also works on a nationwide basis. Steven works with a large selection of clients, helping facilitate recruitment for temporary and contract positions across all practice areas of the legal sector and for specialist short-term projects. He works with candidates of all levels from both non-qualified and qualified backgrounds. Steven has an AVCE in IT.
