It's a candidates market as salaries are on the rise

Posted in News on 21 Jul 2015

You may have seen last week our blog ‘Just the ticket – lawyers getting careers back on track with bumper pay rises’, which showed that in the first half of 2015 candidates averaged a 15% increase in salary when making a move, with some practice areas offering over 30%.

As the war for talent becomes ever prevalent in the industry, more firms are expanding their pay brackets to secure top recruits. Over the last 2 months, many top firms have announced increases in wages at various levels, including Allen & Overy, who announced an 18% rise for NQ’s, and Freshfields, who are offering Paralegals in their new Manchester office a booming £23,000, much higher than the average £18,000 salary for Paralegals in Manchester.

It’s evident that the legal market is ripe for growth since the recession, and candidates now have more power to pick and choose their roles as firms compete for the top legal talents. It’s a great time to be a lawyer, and those qualifying this year have more options than ever, both nationally and internationally, as many firms open offices in the North of England and across the Middle East.
