Top 10 tips to make the most of your Recruitment Consultant

Posted in Latest News on 2 Jul 2015

We’ve been lucky enough to have some great feedback recently, and we were surprised to find that a lot of candidates didn’t expect this!

We’re extremely passionate about legal recruitment and making sure we remove the pain points in your recruitment journey, so we’ve popped together these top ten tips to get the most out of your recruitment consultant.

  1. Ask any questions! Even if you think it sounds silly ask it anyway. We’re here to help you in any way that we can to secure your next role.
  2. Be honest. If you’ve applied somewhere already or had any other offers then let us know. If we are 100% in the loop, we can help you to secure your dream role more efficiently, and might even be able to negotiate you a higher salary if we have all of the details.
  3. Take advantage of all the services we offer. We offer full consultancy services, and talk to both clients and candidates to get up to date information on the legal market, salary information and what firms want. We offer a much wider service than simply ‘recruitment’, so read up and learn from us.
  4. Even if you aren’t actively searching for a role, you can still ask for impartial advice. We share a lot of information on the current legal market, and to put yourself in a better position in the future when you are job hunting, take some time now to get in the know.
  5. Find out your recruitment consultants’ specialist areas. Every recruiter will have strengths, so let us match you with someone who is best placed to find you the perfect role.
  6. Ask questions about the firm you’re due to interview with – do we place with them often? What type of working culture do they have? Do we have a good relationship with them? It’s best to get as much information as possible
  7. Use our resources to make sure your CV and your interview skills are the best they can be – show the firm that it’s YOU they need.
  8. Make yourself contactable – we understand that you may well be in your current role during the day, but don’t be afraid to contact us outside of these hours too. We want to do the best we can for you, and that means we need to communicate, so don’t be afraid to call or email us.
  9. Tell us about your impression of your interview – why was it particularly good, or perhaps not so good? This type of information can help us to understand the type of culture where you would thrive, and therefore find the best job match for you.
  10. Give us your feedback – we are constantly growing and looking to improve, and any feedback you can offer will help us with this.

Also, here’s a couple of the testimonials that we were so pleased to get!

“So much appreciation for Douglas Scott. I could not have been as prepared or felt as confident going to my interview if it weren't for Hauwa. She went above and beyond to ensure I was ready for the interview, providing very helpful tips and suggestions, and I got a call back the following day from the job offering me the position. Getting this position has opened so many doors for me and set me up for a career as a paralegal. I couldn't be more pleased and impressed with the incredible service from Hauwa and she has continued to assist me with questions I've had following the interview and I can't thank her enough! Such a kind natured and approachable person.”

“I would say that your work in finding my job was very diligent, you were very conscientious in finding somewhere suitable for me. I would be happy to recommend your services to others seeking to move elsewhere (and I have in fact passed your name on to one or two of my former colleagues, from whom you may have heard).”
