Pretty Muddy Run 2015

On Saturday 20th June, twelve of the Douglas Scott team took part in the ‘Pretty Muddy Run’ for Cancer Research UK. The ‘Lovely Legal Ladies’ took on the challenge elegantly as we made our way around the course.

The event consisted of running/walking/crawling a 5K obstacle course through Tatton Park, which I thought was going to be pretty easy when we approached the first obstacle where we had to make our way through a series of tangled ropes. The next obstacle saw us crawling under a net on a sheet of mud (the first muddy obstacle), and it was all downhill from there! Crawling through tubes with a puddle of mud inside, jumping over inflatables, landing into a pool of mud, and climbing up a 10ft net seemed bad enough; but then we got to the inflatable pool…which was obviously filled with mud. We had to crawl through the pool, whilst the guys at the side were pushing us lower and lower into the mud, until we were basically swimming through it. The final obstacle made the whole thing worth it as we got to slide down the big inflatable slide and all was going well; until you’re half way down and you realise there’s another pool of mud at the bottom. As you can imagine, we all got, well… pretty muddy!

I can’t really complain about being muddy though, I should have known what I’d signed up for as the name kind of gives it away! Despite all of the mud, I really enjoyed the whole event, from the warm up, right through to receiving my medal at the end of the run. The atmosphere was amazing because everyone was there for the same reason; to help raise money for an amazing charity, and have fun whilst they did it – and no one got left behind!

Pretty Muddy is one of a number of events that raises much needed funds for Cancer Research UK - world leaders in finding new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. The charity receives no Government funding for their research so events such as these go some way to helping them continue their groundbreaking work and help more people survive cancer.

So far we’ve raised £451.20, which is 180% of our target, so thank you so much to everyone who has already kindly donated! There’s still time to donate, so if you haven’t had chance yet and would like to help such a great cause, then please click here.
